Preventing Dental Cavities

The texture of cheese increases saliva secretion in the mouth. More saliva means fewer dental cavities. Certain nutrients in cheese reduce plaque. Less plaque means fewer cavities. Finally, timing is everything. Eating cheese after a sweet snack will neutralize the harmful effects of the sugar. Aside from cheese, fruits such as apples will naturally clean particles in between teeth by the natural means of consumption. An important note that works for the prevention of dental cavities for infants may also work well for adults. Water down the juice, as juice coats the teeth. Cut back on the snacks or neutralize the effect by brushing afterwards.
Healthy habits- Don’t underestimate the power of brushing. It may be a good idea to brush more than three times per day to prevent dental cavities. Try taking a toothbrush to work. It may be difficult at first, but experiment with brushing after a cup of coffee or a mid-afternoon snack. This may go a long way in warding off dental bills that may have been prevented. Flossing is always a healthy habit to clean the buildup of plaque and tartar in between teeth. Brushing alone may not reach the danger spots where dental cavities form.
The dentist- A trip to a trusted dentist will never hurt. A dentist can offer solutions that prevent dental cavities or the onset of decay from worsening; the sooner the better. Many adults will skip a regular check-up, thinking that they are saving money. In the long run, this may give dental cavities enough time to create more damage. Bad habits will only lead to worse ones. Once an individual has missed one visit, it is very easy to miss another. Find the time to make an appointment.
