Various Causes for Dental Pain
Imagine eating in your favorite restaurant, perhaps enjoying your favorite dish of chicken parmesan or filet mignon. Every bite you sample is juicy, tasty, and CRACK! A loud, crunch resounds in your mouth. The foreign sound is followed by excruciating dental pain. Dental pain is probably one of the worst pains that an individual has to endure. Normally, the problem cannot be alleviated immediately, especially if the problem occurs during the weekend. A chipped or fractured tooth is only one form of dental pain, but it may be categorized as one of the highest priorities, depending on the break and depending on the location of the tooth. If a nerve is exposed, the individual may have trouble sleeping, due to the high level of dental pain.
There are other causes of dental pain. One of the most common sources of dental pain is from cavities. Cavities are created by a number of ways: Genetics, poor dental hygiene, poor diet, plaque or tartar buildup, or even from certain unhealthy habits (frequent vomiting). Tooth decay is the destruction of tooth structure. Once the structure has been breached, exposure to the nerve will ensue. Nerve exposure can cause serious dental pain that can prevent an individual from performing even simple tasks. Concentration is nearly impossible, as the pain can very from constant to erratic. Exposure of the nerve also causes eating or drinking to be a problem, as contact with the nerve will cause a flash of dental pain that is eerily reminiscent of an electrical shock. There are two ways to handle the pain once the nerve is exposed: A root canal is the professional way, which may be a mountain of dental pain in itself. The other way is to endure the pain until it subsides. This may take up to three weeks of constant excruciating dental pain, but eventually, the pain will subside. Once the pain subsides, the nerve is dead. The tooth will eventually become brittle and may crack or dissolve, which may open the door to new source of dental pain in the future.
The best way to handle dental pain is to attack the problem at the source the moment the first sign of pain arises. This will prevent any further problems, as no one deserves to live a life filled with agony. Take preventive measures towards dental pain by visiting the dentist on a regular basis and by brushing and flossing regularly.
